Thanks to the generous efforts of our members and the community, AAUW-COS has been able to award dozens of scholarships to local women attending Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) or the University of Colorado Springs (UCCS). Our main fundraiser has been the annual Authors Day Event & Silent Auction, which features presentations by local authors. Below are some of the highlights from previous events.
Authors Day 2024: June 3, 2024 at the Broadmoor Community Church Fellowship Hall.
Thanks to fundraising efforts, memorial grants and other donations, AAUW-COS was able to award six scholarships totaling $15,000. The annual fundraiser featured two local authors, Brook Eddy, author of the personal and business memoir Steeped: Adventures of a Tea Entrepreneur and Shelly Read, author of the historical novel Go as a River.
Authors Day 2023: April 29, 2023 at the Broadmoor Community Church Fellowship Hall
Thanks to fundraising efforts, memorial grants, and other donations, AAUW-COS was able to award eight scholarships totaling $16,500. The annual fundraiser featured local author Claire Boyles (Site Fidelity).
Authors Day 2022: April 30, 2022 at Peel House
Thanks to fundraising efforts, memorial grants, and other donations, AAUW-COS was able to award six scholarships totaling $15,000. The annual fundraiser featured the following local authors: Susan Fletcher, Lynne Bryant, and Margaret Mizushima.
Authors Day 2020/2021 – April 17, 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Authors Day was cancelled for 2020 and combined with 2021 as an online-only event. Bidding took place over a two-week period, culminating with a virtual presentation on April 17, 2021. Fundraising efforts raised over $10,000 and with no overhead costs, all sales went directly to the scholarship fund! The featured local authors were: Pam Houston and Jeri Norgren.
