CONSIDER DONATING TO OUR SCHOLARSHIPS FUND USING THESE TAX BREAKS IN 2021
> The above-the-line charitable contribution tax break is extended and enhanced under the CARES Act through 2021 at $600 for those married filing jointly and $300 for other filers. This means taxpayers will be able to take the standard deduction and also deduct up to $600 in charitable contributions when calculating their 2021 taxable income. To qualify, charitable contributions must be made in cash, which includes currency, checks, credit or debit cards, and electronic funds transfers. Contributions of property, such as clothing or household items do not qualify. For those who itemize deductions, the 2021 limit on the charitable gifts deduction increased to 100% of Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) for charitable contributions.
> Here’s another tax break. Under the SECURE Act, commencing at age 70½ cash donations known as qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) can be made from traditional IRA(s) to IRS approved charities free of any federal income tax hit. We will work with your financial institution to make the necessary arrangements. One of the biggest advantages the QCD rule provides is the ability for taxpayers to lower their adjusted gross income (AGI). This is much more valuable than taking an itemized deduction which merely lowers taxable income.
Our Scholarships Fund has evolved since its formation in 1974 with its first $200 scholarship awarded in 1975. In 2020 we awarded six scholarships of $1500 to students from either UCCS or PPCC, and two Addie Mae Memorial Scholarships of $1,850. Our scholarship winners have always expressed their great gratitude for contributing toward their education and their promising futures. By supporting our local Scholarships Fund, you fuel the pursuit of academic work by women and girls who will go on to lead innovative community projects to empower other women and girls.
